Hotels are becoming music stores.

Today's music fans are more likely to pick up a CD and discover new talent in a coffee house, clothing store or hotel, rather than at a music store -

The Water Music Records Group creates customized music CDs for hotels and spas. With their low minimum runs and lower costs, the response from hotels and spas has been fantastic around the world. Their client list at press time includes HILTON, PENINSULA, HYATT, LEADING HOTELS OF THE WORLD, MARRIOT, RADISSON, BELLAGIO, TIMBERS RESORTS and a few others. "Our recent branded CDs have proven that there is a niche market we can tap into for business; and it also helps our hotel and spa clients by providing them with music for their bars, pools, common areas and spas," says Brad Pressman, President of the music company which operates out of Encino, California, a suburb of Los Angeles.

Water Music is now offering a new cardboard CD package with 4-6 panels to display photos of hotel amenities like restaurants, pools, spas and bars; and the extreme left CD panel has slot to accommodate 2 room keys at check-in.

As chains and boutique hotels strive to keep up with the technology, they are providing music as entertainment and offering private label logo CDs as a thank you, guest amenity and additional source of revenue for mini bars, turn-down service and gift shop / spa counters.

"Hotels are keeping up nicely by offering iPod docks in-room and jukeboxes in lobbies where guests can program their favorite tracks at no cost but those do not emphasize their logo or advertise what their property has to offer. There is nothing like a private label CD to help guests remember and rekindle that experience of their favorite hotel or spa," according to Pressman who's label has a staff with a combined 75+ years of experience in music.

Most of Water Music's recent clients are using these branded CDs to:

  • promote a new nightclub or restaurant
  • enhance their guest's experience
  • add to hotel revenues at spa counters and hotel gift shops
  • launch a new website, spa treatment or adult pool area
  • thank guests for staying with them in their suites
  • and increase their brand awareness with the huge pass-on rate of a CD
As its client base started to shrink at music retail, Water Music Records began shifting some of its weight to the branded CD market for hotels and spas. They have even done packages for yoga studios, vodka companies, restaurants and even an airline, which used the CD as a bag stuffer in film festivals to promote a new service.

"It all began when a few hotels and spas asked us to create a soundtrack for their pool or spa and just evolved from there" says Pressman. "Now, much of my time is spent in hotels meeting with executives to plan their new CDs and music aura for their properties.

The company plans to also service the international hotel market by showcasing at foreign trade shows and offering the branded CD packages in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and South America.

"If the average music consumer is browsing for new music collections at a hotel, clothing shop or coffee house, we need to be there for them. The model is changing and we need to be conscious that our customers are not going to record stores as they used to," concludes Pressman.
